Meet Anthony, Tanja & Robert, the team behind Secolo Balmain who have dedicated the past 11 years to the exciting, and sometimes scary, world of hospitality with a vision to bring high quality, traditional Italian food to Sydney as well as superior customer service. They share a passion for creating unforgettable experiences for others.
As a team, they have a keen eye for detail and innate sense of hospitality. In 2012 they took the leap into following their dream and opened their first venue in Parramatta which led to a second, third and in 2017 a restaurant called Secolo Dining in Sydney’s CBD.
They are now embarking on a new project, opening a Secolo pop-up in the old Exchange Hotel in Balmain. Different to all their other CBD venues, Secolo Balmain will be more of an intimate dining experience where the owners and staff can spend more time elevating the dining experience. In a world where dining is often rushed and impersonal, Secolo Balmain aims to stand as a testament to the belief that a meal is not just sustenance but an art form that nourishes the soul.
Our HEAD CHEF
Meet Mattia Senesi, the Secolo chef weaving magic in Italian cuisine. With a passion for flavours inherited from generations past, Mattia’s journey began on a farm in the outskirts of Tuscany where everything was locally grown. Mattia’s appetite for cooking came from the Nonna’s in his village who wanted to make others happy with their food.
At 14 Mattia went to a culinary school near Monza which taught hands on practical skills in the kitchen and a strong foundation in the basics. His signature lies in reimagining Italian dishes, adding his personal touch while honouring the essence of tradition.
At 28, Mattia is partnering with his previous employers to open his own restaurant in Balmain, where he wants to show the locals his modern approach to classic Italian food. His culinary creations are a symphony of taste and presentation, capturing the essence of Italy on every plate.
Mattia’s mission extends beyond the kitchen; he aims to inspire a new generation to appreciate the artistry of food and the stories it carries. He hopes to inspire young, ambitious chefs and share his knowledge, inviting enthusiasts to explore the vibrant world of Italian cooking.
